                                                               PROJECT KULTAN KEIHAS

Presented by the National Scholastic Sport Foundation

NSAF proudly announces the 4th year of Project Kultan Keihas (Javelin Gold) which started in Oct, 2011. This year's camp date is:  Sept. 24-27th, 2015. The goal of this project is to identify emerging elite junior javelin talent and provide them with the best technical and training methods to maximize their development to international level throwers and represent the US in Olympic/world Championship events. Additionally, we will provide state of the art coaching and training instruction to any coaches and athletes who attend these camps, in addition to the selected and sponsored throwers in this program. In a first of it's kind program in the US, Project Kultan Keihas will bring the top US and Finnish javelin coaches together to provide a level of understanding and education about javelin technique and training never before available in the US. Coaching staff for Project Kultan Keihas  include:
Kari Ihalainen: Kari is the Senior National Javelin coach for Finland, a position he has held for over 15 years.  He is the most successful national coach in Finland's history, overseeing more international medals and records than any other Finnish coach.  Kari was also quite a successful athlete, representing Finland on international teams and boasting a life best over 285ft with the "old rules" javelin. He also served 3 years as South Korea's national javelin coach, leading to new national records for both men and women under his leadership and was the coach of Breaux Greer during Breaux's record setting 2007 season that saw him top 90m twice, set a new US record and win 3rd place at the 2007 World Championships, the 1st US global javelin medal in almost 25 years!
Kimmo Kinnunen: Kimmo is currently the Finnish National Junior coach, working with emerging elite Finns 19 years and younger.  As well, Kimmo was the 1991 World Champion and finalist at 1992 Olympic Games.  He is the coach who will train the Kultan Keihas Project athletes who come to Finland for the famous Finnish Javelin Carnival- Keihaskarnaavlit- and training at the Olympic Training Center in Kuortane, Finland.  Kimmo and his son Jami (2013 European Juniors finalist) will be at the Oct. 2014 and Jan. 2015 camps as well as the summer training trip to Finland.
Barry Krammes: A former All American @ East Stroudsburg Univ, Barry is co-founder of The Factory, a private training center for javelin throwers in eastern PA.  With a life best of 79m, Barry is a 2 time finalist @ US Olympic Trials and has several top 8 places @ USATF Nationals as well as high level throwing in Europe, notably the Finnish Javelin Carnival and Finnish National Championships.  As well as teaching at the US based training camps, Barry travels with the Project athletes to the Finland training center.
Tom Pukstys: Tom is currently Throws co-odinator for USATF- as an athlete Tom set several US records with a best of 87.12m/285ft 10in, was twice an Olympics finalist (1992 and 1996) and 6 time US champion.  Tom is one of only 2 non-Finns to win the Phitipudas Keihaskarnivaalit, the world famous Finnish Javelin Carnival when he dropped an 84m bomb on the field in 1999.  Tom has been speaking and teaching at camps and clinics across the US for many years as well as running a personal training business where he has worked with athletes of a variety of ages in several sports, improving all aspects of their athletic abilities. Tom joined the Kultan Keihas program in Dec., 2013 and made an immediate positive impact.
Jeff Gorski: former USATF Javelin High Performance chair. Founder of Klub Keihas and coach of many elite throwers and US record holders, both HS and Open. 2X TAC (now USATF) Finalist, 1981 US National Team member; 3X All ACC @ UNC-CH 1974, 1976 & 1978.  Jeff has coached US record holders 2 senior and junior/HS levels, several US Olympians as well as national record holders from Cayman Islands and Guatemala.
The 4th Kultan Keihas training camp is open to any interested coaches and athletes for observation/interaction with coaching staff. There will be many opportunities for attending athletes to work on drills/exercises during the training sessions with the program selected athletes. Coaches are encouraged to film, ask questions and generally be involved so they can gain maximum benefit from this event. Clinic fee is $175.00: athletes attending please
